Timing - Remote Consulting takes place throughout the design and construction phases of the project, as needed.

Identifying hard-to-build details and offering alternatives.

Going over all the details with regard to the SIREWALLs and making comments where useful or necessary. Special attention is paid to buildability and value engineering.

Support the Engineer of Record in understanding the capabilities and structural requirements of the SIREWALL product.

Providing support with local building code and safety compliance.

Support for project-specific specifications for the SIREWALLs.

Support GC with formwork selection, mixer selection, tamper selection, delivery selection, and quality control tools. All the above will be project-specific.

Support GC with general preparedness for SIREWALL portion of the project and advise on sequencing / Gantt chart considerations.

Review of completed walls and support in troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

  • Mix Design Pre-Trip Services

Remote research prior to the trip - locating and speaking with local professionals, experts, and quarries to gather information on local materials and conditions.

    Mix Design On-Site Service

Two SIREWALL staff will be on-site for up to 9 days.

Prospecting – visiting quarries and other material sources near the building site to find local candidate materials for the Mix Design.

Sieve analysis - determining fineness modulus of local materials, and graphing the particle size distribution of each candidate material.

Computerized mix design – establishing the best mix(es) of materials in optimal proportions based on proprietary metrics, taking into consideration the specific project’s strength and textural requirements.

Creation of compressive test samples of the optimal mix(es), to be tested in a geotechnical lab at 7 days and 28 days in order to establish strength data for the optimal mix(es).

Creation of color samples for the architect/client in order to refine the visual presentation.

    Mix Design Post-Trip Services

Initial Consulting - support in determining best Mixing, Delivery, Forming, and Compacting methods for the project.

Post-trip wrap up including written report.

  • The Mock-Up Wall trip serves as an opportunity to train the construction team that is going to build the full project. For the success of the project and to mitigate additional costs, we highly recommend that the team trained during the Mock-Up Wall build is the team responsible for the construction of the full project.

When complete, the SIREWALL builder will have received:

    • An understanding of what to expect from the finished SIREWALL product

    • Hands-on experience with means and methods (forming, mixing, delivering, ramming)

    • Training in the unique aspects and challenges of building with SIREWALL

The project design team will have an understanding of:

    • Expectations of completed SIREWALL product (color, texture, finish, project-specific features)

    • Opportunities to conduct any relevant structural testing

    • SIREWALL buildability and design opportunities and constraints

    Mock-Up Pre-Trip Services

Remote research, training, and consulting with SIREWALL builder - including collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors on the design of mock-ups. Collaborating with the contractor on means and methods (equipment, forming, delivery, mixing, etc.).

Material calculations support and training - in order to accurately calculate the volume of materials required for the project.

    Mock-Up Wall on-Sote Services

Two SIREWALL staff will be on-site for up to 9 days.

On-site supporting and training SIREWALL builder during the creation of a mockup wall.

Working with the architect to further refine the visual presentation and assess how the chosen colors work together. This is also the opportunity to explore the wall’s surface textural possibilities, as well as structural and decorative features.

Inspecting formwork, materials, and equipment-making recommendations for alterations and improvements.

We believe experience-based learning is more powerful than theoretical learning; we recommend intentionally leaving select formwork errors uncorrected to demonstrate the consequences of using forming methods that are not appropriate for SIREWALL.

Supporting the SIREWALL builder in stripping the formwork and reviewing the completed wall and discussing successes and areas for improvement.

    Mock-Up Wall Post-Trip Services

Initial site analysis with regard to locations of stockpiling, placement of volumetric/auger mixer, additional equipment requirements, delivery routes, sequence of construction, identification of hazards, etc.

Follow-up report and discussion - review of the mock-up build process including means and methods, outcomes, features, test results, etc.

  • When complete the build team is capable of going ahead independently*. Quality metrics have been identified and a system of monitoring implemented.

Number of Trips to Site Area - Project Specific* (number of trips can vary depending on the size and complexity of the project)

Training and Quality Control Pre-Trip Services

Remote research, training, and consulting with SIREWALL builder - including collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors on design, buildability, and unique features. Collaborating with the contractor on means and methods (equipment, forming, delivery, mixing, etc.).

Quality control - observing the SIREWALL team mix, deliver, place and ram material into formwork.

We meet with the workers, lead hand, and QC person to be sure everyone knows what success looks like and what the measure-ables are.

We focus on the highest quality possible and will highlight all formwork errors for correction.

Training and Quality Control Post-Trip Services

Follow-up report and discussion - review of the on-site trip including means and methods, outcomes, features, test results, recommendations, etc.

  • Some additional services can be provided remotely and some may need to be provided with a trip to the site. "In just one visit you cut across 12 months of technical presentations, descriptions, and specifications by us which had been met with doubt, scepticism and interrogation on the part of the Client. The political decision maker and other members of the Client body were convinced there and then. …SIREWALL is of its time, but is timeless. It is a more appropriate and more solid form of construction, better adapted to climatic variation, comfort and low energy consumption. It is responds to a desire for authenticity of local materials, colours and textures – and is a beautiful material."
